NAS Part I: Certificate in foreshore and underwater archaeology

The NAS Part I Certificate builds on the knowledge and skills learnt during the Introduction Course. The course aims to introduce archaeological projects from the planning phase through to carrying out a 3D survey and publishing the results.

The course combines both theory and practical sessions, where partcipants will plan and carry out their own small survey project building on the 2D survey skills learnt during the Introduction Course with practical 3D survey skills.

Course Information

The Part I Course is open to anyone who has previously completed the NAS Introduction Course. Practical sessions are offered for divers and non-divers, and can cater for different ages and abilities. Please let the NAS Office know if you have any special requirements from a course.

Diving on a Part I Course is usually held in a controlled open water environment such as a quarry or sheltered bay. For those who wish to attend as divers the minimum diving qualification is CMAS 2-Star, BSAC Sport Diver, SAA Club Diver, or PADI Advanced Open Water.

The course normally costs £175.00, but this may vary depending upon local facilities and diving fees. The fee includes a course folder to store qualifications records and online membership of the NAS for one year.
