Conferences and events
Most people in Britain and many parts of the world live close to an example of our maritime heritage. Even if you live far from the sea you may certainly be near a river, canal or lake, and the wharves, warehouses and factories that grew up alongside the water. But heritage is far more than just those remains, it concerns the people who built, used (and in the case of ships and boats) sailed them. Without these people ships could not sail, factories would produce nothing and the great explorations of our past world not have happened.
Many people have direct links to that past - family members who built or served on ships, and dealt with the cargoes. Shelves at home may carry mementos of that service, and letters in attics will contain details of their everyday lives.
The Nautical Archaeology Society outreach programme, aims to teach people about the importance of our maritime past, and to help disseminate and communicate information about our shared heritage. In doing so, we organise and participate in a range of activities designed to connect with the wider community, archaeologists, divers, historians, naval architects, school children, teachers, mariners, and anyone interested in our maritime and underwater cultural heritage.
Current activities include the NAS Annual Conference, the 3rd International Congress on Underwater Archaeology (IKUWA3), National Archaeology Week, the Dive Shows, and much much more. Follow the links to your right for more information, or contact us using the link below.
